Ilias Mokas is a PhD student at the Faculty of Business Economics, Hasselt University. He obtained his master in Environmental Economics from the University of Copenhagen and then he worked at the Department of Sustainable Resources at the Joint Research Centre of European Commission. Before he became a member of the environmental economics group at Hasselt University, he worked for the Department of Digitalization at Copenhagen Business School.
His main research interests are articulated around data & quantitative analysis in examining environmental problems, and research in bio-economics, sharing-economy platforms, mapping poverty & inequality using satellite data and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Currently, Ilias investigates how VR (Virtual Reality) can be employed as a successful tool for assessing people’s preferences. Particularly, VR-tech aims to address issues of reliability and validity within Discrete Choice Experiments (DCEs), and to encourage citizen’s participation in decision-making processes regarding sustainable urban planning and ecosystem services
