Dr. Hakan Olcay obtained his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Middle East Technical University in Ankara. After receiving his Ph.D. title, also in Chemical Engineering, from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA; he first occupied a Postdoctoral Associate position in the Laboratory for Aviation and the Environment at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA, and later worked as an Alternative Aviation Fuels Expert at SENASA in Madrid. He has both experimental and theoretical background in the field of alternative fuels, particularly in biofuels. His expertise includes, but is not limited to, emerging technologies; designing, building and operating reaction and analytical systems; process scale-up; process design and simulation; carbon and water life cycle assessment; minimum selling price and energy return on investment evaluation; energy policies; as well as value-chain certification. He is currently carrying out postdoctoral research overseeing a number of environmental research projects in the Department of Environmental Economics at Hasselt University.
